Raising a toddler...

...is very hard. As in very very hard. I don't know where I went wrong. Angela seems to grow away from the values that we are teaching her. She's becoming unmanageable. This morning, her yaya told me that the reason why she doesn't go with us to church is because she doesn't believe in God. Whoa! That hit me...hard! =(

I have no idea where she got that. I don't know who taught her that, whoever you are, I'll deal with you soon. But first, I have to do something with my daughter. Although she's normal most of the time, she scares the hell out of me when her tantrums kick in. That's when she becomes unruly. She would (sometimes) shout, call people names, throw everything away, and cry like there's-no-tomorrow. Oh, she's no evil. She's still my angel sent from heaven.

I usually ignore her during these times. I read somewhere that throwing our fit of temper to them while they are out of control would only make everything worse. True mga mare, once I wasn't able to control my emotions and join her in shouting, we both ended up wasted and crying. Masakit sa ulo. At masakit sa loob. Now, what I do is, I tell her that I'll talk to her once she's calm and willing to listen. Sometimes, it works. Pero minsan rin hindi. Pag hindi epek yan, I'll tell her to stop (in a higher tone) and count from 1 to 10. Minsan rin epek, pag hindi, I ask her to face the wall. Pati pag face the wall, hindi rin sya sumusunod. She'll stand near the wall though, but she'll make sure that I see her frown. Di ba? Hindi ko na talaga alam kung anong gagawin ko.

Helllpppp!!

  1. I'm not the best person to help because I'm not a mom, but I think most mothers go through the same thing. I witnessed my sisters, cousins and even friends who had the same dilemma with their kids. And when I started reading mom blogs, I've confirmed my conclusion that kids really act like that at their age. Maybe your fellow moms can help you :)

  2. Oh no! I remember when my girl was 2 or 3. She was a hard toddler too! She threw tantrums anywhere, even at the mall. I think your baby will get over this phase like mine did. There came a time that I really spanked her butt to let her know that she cant always have her way. I cried after. I didnt wanna resort to that but I felt that she needed a firm hand. Thankfully, she is 6 now and so much nicer na. I know, she will overcome this and will grow up to be a good girl.
    cheer up,mommy! hugs

    1. Thanks, Mommy K! I've secretly cried a lot whenever I can't tame her. I've used my hands on her butt more than once and I resent the feeling afterwards. I've read everywhere that this is just a phase. And I'm praying really hard that this stage will be gone sooner.

  3. Mommy,I feel for you, i remember, I even experienced that, when my daughter threw up her tantrums. I even asked her to face the wall but, she is not following me. I tried to talk to her instead and tell her that, what she have done is wrong, and never do it again. Sometimes, i just let her cry.untill magsawa siya. pag napapalo naman, its true na ang sakit sa loob pala.. sigh.. well, I hope your daughter can get over it too.

    1. I do that, too. I let her cry until mapagod sya. Pero minsan din kasi, may mga araw na hindi natin kayang i-tolerate yung ingay ng iyak nila, most especially if we're tired from doing household chores or we just came from work. Sana talaga she'll get over this soon. =)

  4. I feel you. My kids are the same. They always seem to ignore their limits. What I do, when all seems not working, I talk to them like real adults. I don't curse but I show them what I really feel..sometimes I ended up crying myself haha. But I believe it's just a phase. They'll grow and mature. And I hope they will grow and mature fast. Like bukas na haha. Nice to drop by your blog...!

    1. Haha. Yeah, like bukas na talaga. =) Oh my, I sometimes end up crying, too. Pag hinding hindi na talaga kaya ng powers ko na i-tame sya, sinasabayan ko na lang din ng iyak. lol!
